Blue and white porcelain refers to the white ground with blue flowers or blue ground with white flowers, which is the general name of the underglazed color figure porcelain; It is one of the typical representatives of Chinese traditional porcelain.

 

Blue and white porcelain is a kind of porcelain which is made of cobalt oxide, painted and decorated on a porcelain body, then covered with transparent glaze, and fired by reduction flame above 1320 ℃. Cobalt glaze is blue after firing, which holds the characteristics of strong tinting strength, bright and stable color, and high firing rate. The successful firing of blue and white porcelain is an epoch-making event in the history of Chinese ceramics.


The earliest blue and white porcelain glazes originated from the Middle East and Asia Minor during the Yuan Dynasty. So, the blue and white porcelain of the Yuan Dynasty has very high research and collection value. Owing to the continuous improvement of blue and white porcelain in Ming and Qing Dynasties, its output became relatively high and was mainly for export.
