The Ceramic Work Forest Dream

In the dream, a young girl travels through the big forest in the breeze. There is the endless lush forest, with tall poplars, birches, firs and larches. The branches are upright and staggered, and the leaves are so dense that you can’t see the sky. The air is so refreshing that it makes your spirit bright ... The forest is shining with the green light and it is like a green sea.

   This is the visual perception presented by the ceramic work Forest Dream.

Forest Dream is a work created by Ukrainian young ceramist Vovk Daria in the 7th China Changchun International Ceramics Symposium in 2018.

The work is made of porcelain and measures 58.0 × 31.0 × 2.8 cm. With mural relief, Vovk Daria uses romanticism to express her admiration and love for nature by expressing the scene of the girl traveling through the forest and calling on people to protect the ecological environment and return to the original thoughts and feelings.

The forest is the cradle of humanity. Without forests, there would be no human beings. The forest has nurtured humans, but humans are “ungrateful”. Since humans did not live in the forest, they have begun to destroy the forest. This kind of destruction develops as human civilization develops. In modern times, deforestation is “devastating”. Here is a set of figures: At the beginning of human civilization, the global forest area reached 8 billion hectares, accounting for 2/3 of the land; during the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century, the forest area fell to 55 hectares, a decrease of nearly 1/3; By the end of the last century, there were only 2.6 billion hectares of forest in the world, which is more than 2/3 less than that of the early human civilization.

The forest can conserve water, protect soil, purify air, and balance ecology

As we all know, the forest plays a pivotal role in the process of maintaining the material cycle and energy exchange of the earth’s biosphere. Through photosynthesis, the forest absorbs carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and release oxygen for humans and other animals and plants to breathe. Therefore, forests are called “super natural lungs”. The forest is also a “green reservoir”. It can intercept 70-270 mm of precipitation through interception by forest canopies, water storage by fallen leaves in the forest and water absorption from the forest soil. It is estimated that the storage capacity of 3,300 hectares of forest is equivalent to that of a reservoir with a capacity of 1 million cubic meters. In addition, the forest, a paradise for animals, provides animals with food, a habitat, and a shelter ... In short, the forest is an indispensable part of the earth, and it is a “sacred place” on which the animal world, including humans, depends.
